MRS. AGNES GAUGHAN DIES SUDDENLY TODAY. Young, popular matron found dead in bed, succumbing to heart attack. WIDOW OF JOSEPH GAUGHAN Mrs. Agnes Franey Gaughan, 37, widow of Attorney Joseph Gaughan, passed away suddenly about 5 o'clock this morning at her home, 40 West Coal Street. Mrs. Gaughan was found dead in bed, a heart attack causing death. She had been complaining the past three days of indigestion, but her condition was such as not to cause any alarm to immediate members of her family. Mrs. Gaughan was one of the community's prominent young matrons. She was exceedingly popular in social circles and a leader of the community's younger set. A cheerful and amiable disposition endeared her to countless friends, who share in sympathy with her family over her untimely and sudden passing. The departed was born in Shenandoah, a daughter of the late James J. and Mrs. B. A. Franey. She attended the local public schools, and was a graduate of Merion Convent, in the suburbs of Philadelphia. During the World War she did hospitalization work in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Her husband, Attorney Gaughan, preceded his wife in death two years ago. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. Surviving are three children, Joseph, Fergus, and James; two brothers, Martin J., and Undertaker James J. Franey, of town; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Gallagher, Shenandoah; Mrs. Walter Hackett, Philadelphia; and Mrs. Hugh Vogan, Pittsburgh. The funeral will be held from the home of her brother, Undertaker James J. Franey, 131 North Jardin Street. AGNES GAUGHAN Many relatives and friends attended the funeral of Mrs. Agnes Franey Gaughan, who was laid to rest this morning in the Annunciation BVM Cemetery. At 9:30 o'clock the cortege proceeded from her late home, 129 North Jardin Street, to the Church of the Annunciation, where a Solemn Mass of Requiem was celebrated. The Rev. William Gaughan, of Philadelphia, was celebrant; the Rev. J. Lavin, was deacon, and the Rev. Father McGarrity was sub-deacon. Present in the sanctuary were the Rev. Phillip de Sayegh. The Rev. Cornelius O'Brien, the Rev. Clarence Gregas, and the Rev. Father Gallagher. Father Gallagher preached a consoling sermon. Father Gaughan performed the rite of absolution at the church. At the cemetery services were conducted by Father O'Brien. The body reposed in a gold metallic casket, encased in a vault at the grave. The floral tributes and mass cards were numerous. The pallbearers were Dr. John Conway, Martin McGuire, Esq., Dr. James Monohan, Dr. William Breslin, Felix O'Hare, Esq., Michael Cuff, Frank Mellet and Paul Houck, Jr. Franey Estate had charge.
